Spring is here, and we are all enjoying every minute of it.

Amos battled valiantly with the mold that was infiltrating our house and won. Much paint and plaster perished in the struggle...

I planted my pot garden with high hopes of better success than last time...

And Zadok got his first buzz!

Quotable quotes from this end (inspired by the side splitting post on the family blog):

"Never mind--I just thought you said you hit your mother in law."

"When you see someone doing something, call the number on this card."

"The label (of the vodka bottle) has a picture of Sylvester Stallone flipping pancakes. When you finish the bottle, you see it's actually Arnold Schwarzenegger and he's flipping m-raps."

"It's a smooth, aromatic blend of two weird feelings."

"The sound of a 50 cal--now that's a beautiful sound."

"Chinooks mate for life, unlike most helicopters."

"We don't feed without bibs. It's unBIBlical."

I guess they're not as funny if you don't actually know the person who quoth the quotable, but I thought I'd share anyway.

This one's especially for Mrs. William Pinkerton...

Don't the hours grow shorter as the days go by
You never get to stop and open your eyes
One minute you're waiting for the sky to fall
The next you're dazzled by the beauty of it all
Lovers in a dangerous time

These fragile bodies of touch and taste
This fragrant skin this hair like lace
Spirits open to the thrust of grace
Never a breath you can afford to waste
Lovers in a dangerous time

When you're lovers in a dangerous time
Sometimes you're made to feel as if your love's a crime
Nothing worth having comes without some kind of fight
Got to kick at the darkness 'til it bleeds daylight
When you're lovers in a dangerous time

Happy International Womens' Day to one and all...

Here's the spice section of the covered bazaar in Dushanbe...a delight to the eye as well as the palate.

And on a somewhat related note, Zadok wants you to know that eating real food is fun!

Zadok and Aliona, ready for another adventure. Aliona loved Zadok, and Zadok...well, he bore the marks of her affection for a good while each time they parted.

Fun was had by all at the zoo, except for possibly by the bears, who looked extremely bored with their cramped quarters.

The vultures and other birds of prey had a much better time of it, especially since visitors to the zoo often bring stale bread to feed them with.

I don't think the practice of feeding the animals extends to the lions, however. Our zoo here in Kabul used to have a lion as well, until someone fed him a grenade.

By the end of the zoo excursion, Zadok was wiped out. He looked so cute in the stroller, all collapsed and folded into himself.

More good times in Dushanbe...

We visited the Botanical Gardens. It only costs about 25 cents to get in, and it is a beautiful place to spend an afternoon, even a chilly, misty one.

With acres of half wild, half landscaped terrain to explore, complete with paved walking trails perfect for strollers and spots for weddings and special events...

 Intriguing signs in Cyrillic...

Good climbing spots...
...And  atmospheric trees, it was a soul satisfying excursion for both mother and baby.
