With a surplus of green tomatoes at the end of the growing season, and the first frosts imminent, I had to come up with a recipe utilizing them, and I created an excellent one, if I say so myself.

It is my pleasure to introduce Green Tomato Chutney, the latest and greatest topping for crackers.

3 cups green tomatoes, chopped
1 cup tart apple, chopped
1 large onion, chopped
1/2 cup white raisins, soaked for several hours and rinsed
2 TBSP vinegar
2 TBSP sugar
1/2 tsp salt
1/2 tsp fresh grated ginger
1/2 tsp allspice
1/4 tsp cinnamon
Dash cloves
Dash nutmeg
Dash black pepper
Dash chili pepper

Mix all ingredients together in a good sized saucepan with a lid and cook slowly for an hour and a half or so until it is soft and blended. The color will be brownish.

Best served with cream cheese over my equally delicious recipe for homemade crackers.

They say when a child plays with his mother's chador, the next child will be a girl. Zadok has shown an unusual interest in my chadors over the past few months...
