I sewed this dress for Joel/Amanda and Ian/Elizabeth's weddings. It's the best one I've made because I finally figured out how to make a skirt correctly. Why it wasn't obvious to me before is anybody's guess.
Amos had fears that I had become a bit colorblind after living here so long (July 20th is the four year anniversary of my arrival--I think) but he decided he liked the dress when it was made up.
On a related note, a friend lent/gave me a sewing machine. It's the old fashioned, hand crank style.
I have yet to sew anything on it, because it's a bit awkward turning the crank with one hand and guiding fabric, etc. with the other. Also because it's badly in need of some maintanance.

I think these may be my new favorite flowers...
I don't even know what to call them, but how could you not revel in a plant that bears two different colors on the same stem...
Or even the same bloom, in an infinite variety of speckles, stripes and patches...
Besides, the magenta and yellow color combination is the epitome of tropical luxury.

The birthday fun continues. Here are guests of honor "Sunny"...
...and Zadok.
Gifts were not necessarily opened by their intended recipients.
Both Birthday Babies agreed that bananas are better than birthday cakes any day.
Zadok wasn't sure about the whole birthday thing, but he was willing to give it a try--once. And then birthdays just kept happening. Poor little guy.

Because of Ramadan starting tomorrow, most of our friends wouldn't be able to make it on the real day, so we celebrated Zadok's first birthday early, yesterday on the 16th. And then again today...and if all goes as planned, we'll probably be able to wring at least one more party out of it.
I colored Zadok's birthday cake blue, because after all you only get to be a little one year old boy once. I'll get in my blue cakes while I can. He was intrigued by the process, but refused to eat even a crumb of it once it was baked.
Decorations were complete with a beautiful flower arrangement by our house guest, Judy, featuring the paper butterflies that had previously been on Zadok's baby mobile.
More pictures to follow...

Thanks to Margaret, the strike is over...or rather, to Mom Lightner, since I failed to specify exactly which pictures I wanted, she did her bit by sending some of little niece Lunaria, and technically that counted.
But thanks for posting pictures of the memorial service and funeral, Margaret. We really appreciate that.

STRIKE! STRIKE! STRIKE!
I'm not posting any more pictures (no, not even birthday pictures) until someone...anyone...posts pictures for me.

Despite the fact that he's still technically in the "carpet slug" or "rug rat" stage...
...It's becoming increasingly difficult to get a photo of Zadok that isn't...
...An intense close-up.

Here are a few photos from outside our new house.
First the obligatory photos of Zadok (and his diapers) doing their thing...
Then, the whole front garden from our bedroom window...
And lastly, a couple of close-ups...

We dearly wish we could be with you all right now, but we can't, and life goes on...
So I will leave you today with a couple shots of Zadok helping his father set up the bathroom.
