January 11, 2014

For your listening pleasure, my year 2014 in song lyrics:

Green and yeller, green and yeller,
Oh Mother, be quick, I'm gonna be sick
And lay me down to die...

There's a holy host of others standing round me
But still I'm on the dark side of the moon
And I know that it goes on like this forever
You must forgive me...
If I've gone to Carolina in my mind...

Belladonna lingers, her gloves don't have no fingers...

Calling America, that's what she said to do
Calling America, that's where she has to be...

Another one bites the dust, yeah, another one bites the dust,
And another one's gone and another one's gone,
Another one bites the dust...

You gotta know when to hold 'em,
Gotta know when to fold em'
Gotta know when to walk away
And know when to run...

Here's a first rate opportunity
To get married with impunity
And indulge in the felicity of unbounded domesticity...

Well the nine-pound hammer is a little too heavy
For my size, honey, for my size...

Too late, my time has come,
Sends shivers down my spine, my body's aching all the time...

And the last laugh, Baby, is yours...

Now I can see the dawn arrivin'
Finally see beyond the road I'm drivin'...

Well the winters drive you crazy and the fishing's hard and slow,
You're a damn fool if you stay but there's no better place to go...

Last week a premature blast went off and a mile in the air went big Jim Goff...

There was shouting in the street
And the sound of running feet,
And I asked someone who said,
“'Bout a hundred cops are dead...”

You never count your money when you're sittin' at the table,
There'll be time enough for countin' when the dealin's done...

When the gun smoke settles we'll sing a victory tune,
And we'll all meet back at the local saloon...

Stand fast.

  1. Thanks, Emily. Quite a year. Isn't it great to have lines and verses that just say it?

    Happy New Year. <3

  4. Emily, Some of us decided that we would also compile our years in song lyrics, following your example. Hopefully with more to follow, here is mine:

“It's gonna take a lot to drag me away from you
There's nothing that a hundred men or more could ever do
I bless the rains down in Africa
Gonna take some time to do the things we never had…”

So you've pulled away from the love that would've been there,
You start believin' that your situation's unfair

    But there's always scars,
    When you fall back far

I don't know if you can see, the changes that have come over me
In these last few days, I've been afraid, that I might drift away
I've been tellin' old stories, singing songs
That made me think, about where I've come from
And that's the reason why I seem so far away today.
    This is love callin'....

    Though it's crazy, amazing
We can turn a heart with the words we say.
    Mountains crumble with every syllable.
    Hope can live or die

    Some days life feels perfect.

    Some days the tongue gets twisted;
Other days my thoughts just fall apart.

Who do you thank for the knowledge of noon
That stands every shadow on end?
Who do you thank for the neighborhood tunes
That float on the breeze like old friends?

"You know I get sick deep-sea fishin'
And you make the best fried chicken…
I'd take a gold band on my hand
    Over being a single man
Cause honestly I don't know what I'd do
If I'd never met a woman like you."

Never too late to get back up again,
    You may be knocked down,
    But not out forever

Newspaper notices heralding that great event
    Daddy's buddies send the flowers
    Mother's friends have baby showers
    Welcoming that Heaven sent
That first born son is always the one
The first to be called and the last to come.

So I'm sailing for tomorrow, my dreams are a dyin'
And my love is an anchor tied to you, tied with a silver chain

Future like a promise, you’re a city of gold
Stubborn in your bones and Jesus in your soul
Seeing you stand there, staring at the unknown
I won't pretend that it's not killing me
    Watching you walk away slow.

The smile on your face lets me know that you need me
There's a truth in your eyes saying you'll never leave me

As we fight against the odds we realize
There’s a special calling placed upon our lives

In the mundane tasks of living
In the pouring out and giving
In the waking up and trying
In the laying down and dying

But the Father gives the strength to believe.

    It’s another nameless morning
And the call goes out, a warning
    There’s a precious life that’s hanging by a thread
And so we rush with hearts a-pounding
    Knowing every moment’s counting

Remember at night what you knew in the day, Till darkness fades away

The tired old man with a Bible in his hand
Said, “Lay my down upon the cool green grass.
My eyes have seen that river flowing through the Promise Land,
I’m just looking for a shallow place to cross.”

And yonder breaks a yet more glorious day
The saints triumphant arise in bright array
The King of Glory passes on His way
    Alleluia, Alleluia

  5. So proud of saying you’re a seeker,
but why are you searching in the dark?

    Jericho must fall.

Now you can go and play it like you’re all rock and roll,
but guilt does a job on each and every man’s soul

the days we spent together still live,
even if we’re torn apart ’til we’re ragged,
that time, that place, this bond won’t disappear.

So you wanna go back to Egypt, where it’s warm and secure?
Are you sorry you bought the one-way ticket when you thought you were sure?

    And the battle’s just begun,
there’s many lost, but tell me who has won?
the trench is dug within our hearts

He’s brought me here, where things are clear,
    and trials turn to gold.

    Don’t believe in the Uzi,
it just went off in my hands
    I, I believe in love.

‘cause all that’s dead inside will be reborn

Let go, let go, the guilt, the shame
said I’m never gonna look back

    chronologically searching my soul,
but I keep on falling out the same old hole

    all the promises we break
from the cradle to the grave
when all I want is you

kyrie eleison down the road that I must travel,
kyrie eleison through the darkness of the night.

what you got, you can’t deny it,
can’t sell it or buy it,
    walk on, walk on.

    I don’t care if I disappear without a trace…
I have drank in the lights,
    I’m radiant and alive.

    Jesus this song you wrote
the words are sticking in my throat
    Peace on earth.
