Epic Hailstorm Downs Mountain of Sinjit!
What, you ask, in the world, are sinjit? Well, these are them (see above.) Afghans love them. Foreigners don't. To give you an idea of the taste and texture, I have translated a riddle from the venacular: "Three shops in a row in the bazaar. One sells leather, one sells cotton, one sells wood."
The answer is, of course, sinjit. So there you have it.
When I searched 'sinjid", Mr Google pulled up Persian olive. It is also known as autumn berry here. There is a tree behind Joel's property and I was planning on trying them this year. The fruit, last time I looked, seemed more oval and was rather tiny.
ReplyDeleteCorrection: Autumn berry is a different species in the same genus as Persian olives (sinjids). They are supposed to taste better and have a better texture. Let's hope that is what is growing by Joel's house.
